GLOBAL SPORTS WEEK PARIS ANNOUNCES NEW DATES FOR 2022 FORUM AS SUPPORTER BASE GROWS

  • Event to take place from May 9th-13th at the Accor Arena, Paris and online

  • World Athletics and Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) the latest international organisations to sign on as Proud Supporters

Originally scheduled from March 7-11th, the event will now take place from May 9th-13th 2022 in order to guarantee the important international dimension of the annual forum.

The decision has been taken in light of the current global health context and a number of short-term travel restrictions in place at the start of the year.

Around 2,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the two-days of in-person events at the Accor Arena in Paris on May 10th-11th, with thousands more participating virtually throughout the week.

Lucien Boyer, President and Co-Founder of Global Sports Week, said:

Accor Arena (Paris), 2022 Official Venue

The opportunity to connect with people from different countries and sectors is the heart of the Global Sports Week concept, and fundamental to the unique platform we offer our delegates and partners.

“While it would have been possible to stage the event safely in line with current French regulations, we believe it is also crucial that people from around the world are able to attend Global Sports Week easily and with confidence.

The new dates mean GSW Paris will take place at a time when the eyes of the sports world will be firmly fixed on France as the official host of the next Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“There is nothing quite like springtime in Paris and we believe May will be an ideal moment to gather the key actors from around the world in the new capital of world sport.”

NEW HEAVY WEIGHT INTERNATIONAL SUPPORTERS

Held under the high patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, GSW is France’s first international sports forum and a key pillar in the French government’s strategy to grow France’s influence and attractiveness in sports in the context of upcoming major sports events including Rugby World Cup France 2023, FIS World Championships Courchevel-Méribel 2023 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

GSW gathers key actors from across the global sports ecosystem and connects them with leaders of international youth, business and society to explore the future of sport through the lens of social change.

The programme is co-created together with a broad coalition of international partner organisations, headlined by Founding Partners adidas and the French Ministry in charge of Sports .

Today, World Athletics and Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) have been unveiled as the latest official ‘Proud Supporters’ of GSW. They join UNESCO, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), FIBA, FIVB, BWF and the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) among those already shaping the agenda for 2022.

Noémie Claret, Managing Director of Global Sports Week, said:

“We are very excited to welcome two of the biggest international sports federations as Proud Supporters of Global Sports Week in 2022.

“The support of World Athletics and UCI is not only a powerful endorsement of Global Sports Week as a global platform, but also brings real added value to our editorial programme.

“We look forward to working closely together as our teams push ahead with some hugely exciting plans for the event in May. Everything is in place to make Global Sports Week the rendez-vous of the year.”
